Applause for Leslie & Lloyd at Rockingham PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 03 April 2008

David Leslie and Richard Lloyd will be remembered and honoured with a period of applause on the grid for the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship’s first race at Rockingham on Sunday 13 April.

Hugely successful and popular within the BTCC, David and Richard tragically lost their lives in an air crash near Biggin Hill in Kent last Sunday (30 March).

At Rockingham, the BTCC drivers will stand next to their cars on the grid and - along with all team members, officials, media and race day crowd -  will applaud the achievements and the lives of David and Richard.

BTCC Series Director Alan Gow said: “It is wholly appropriate that we remember David and Richard in this way – their lives, achievements and what they gave to the BTCC (and motor sport in general) should be honoured and celebrated.

“We ask everyone at Rockingham to join us in whole-heartedly honouring these two really special individuals.”

David Leslie rose to become one of the BTCC’s star drivers and a household name in the Nineties, winning nine races in all and finishing a close championship runner-up to Nissan team-mate Laurent Aiello in 1999.

Richard Lloyd’s success in the BTCC came as both a driver and team principal: in the Seventies, he won 12 races in Chevrolet Camaros, plus three class titles in Golf GTis; later, in 1996, he was in charge of Audi Sport UK’s successful title bid with Frank Biela and the A4 quattro.
