The
British and Irish Rallycross championships will share two events as ties between
the two series are strengthened.
The
first round of the 2008-2009 Motorsport Ireland Rallycross Championship (IRC)
will take place alongside round six of the Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross
Championship (BRC) at Pembrey on September 28.
The two championships will share billing again in October when the BRC finale
takes place at Mondello Park together with the second round of the IRC.
The
BRC has included events in Ireland since 1989, but this is the first time that
the final round of the championship has ever been held there. The IRC moved to a
winter schedule for the recently completed 2007-2008 championship and will
repeat the format with a seven-round series running from September to March ’09.
“These
events underpin the cooperation that exists between the two championships, and
we are looking at ways to strengthen those links and make the two more
compatible,” said John Horton, chairman of BRC organiser the British Rallycross
Drivers Association. “There will be a full entry at Pembrey in September and we
are working together with the Irish organisers to finalise the format of the
event as well as putting the best travel arrangement in place for Irish
competitors coming to Pembrey and the British teams going to Mondello.”
The
September event at Pembrey will also include the eighth round (of 10) of the
Minicross Drivers Association championship.
