Trimble qualifies as top Rookie at Wakefield Park |

Michael Trimble has qualified as the fastest rookie driver for round two of the
Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series at Goulburn’s Wakefield Park in New South Wales this
afternoon.
Trimble steered the #64 Global Jet Commodore to seventh
fastest on the timesheets with a 59.1951s lap around the 2.2km circuit. Such is
the competitiveness of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series the top 11 cars during
qualifying were separated by less than one second.
The 23-year-old made his debut Wakefield Park in 2004 aboard a Formula Ford and
has previously won a race and finished on the podium in the Australian Formula 3
Championship at the venue.
Steve Owen qualified fastest with a lap time
of 58.4392s, a new lap record, ahead of Grant Denyer and Dean Canto.
Tomorrow’s action consists of three races. Race one and two will be
contested over 17 laps while the final journey will be held over 30 laps.

“To finish as the highest rookie is very pleasing
but I’m always looking for more,” said Trimble.
“We had a minor
electrical problems in the opening practice which put us behind the eight-ball a
little bit but at the end of the day I’m happy with seventh fastest in
qualifying.
“The aim now is to maintain my position inside the top ten
during tomorrow’s three races to gain another solid points haul.”
