GP2: Race 2 - Hockenheim, Germany PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 30 July 2006
A water leak on the second engine of the weekend was the cause of Adam Carroll disappointing result in Germany.

With the Mecachrome engine, which was replaced on Friday after a failure on the previous one, reaching 120 degrees before the start of the GP2 sprint race it automatically switched into safe mode running at just 70 per cent of its potential power. It left the British driver with a terrible task to get to the finish line.

Despite a difficult first lap which saw the 23 year old avoiding the spinning leader Clivio Piccione, Carroll pushed hard to try and make up the two lost positions on lap 1. Whilst spins and smashes went on around him, Carroll kept it on the road but that was about as good as it got for the disappointed driver.

“There was just nothing I could do. I didn’t make any mistakes but I was slower through corners and on the straights due to the difference in power so my race was over before it had even started,” said Carroll.

His Team boss Alfonso de Orleans Borbon added “I’m really upset this weekend and feel we have been badly let down by Mecachrome. You normally wouldn’t expect two engine failures in a season let alone one weekend. It is not good for a driver of Adam’s quality to have these problems.”

And with back to back races, there is no rest for the team or drivers. The next round of the GP2 series is this coming weekend in Hungary.

RESULT

1 T Glock (I-Sport International)
