Round
2 of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship was held at Wakefield Park over the weekend of April 4-6.
The
tight and twisty circuit saw one of the closest qualifying sessions Formula
Ford has seen, with less than a second separating the top 20 cars. Harrison put
his Monza Motors Mygale SJ08a on 11th position a mere half a second
from pole position. “I just can’t believe how close the field is, im half a
second from first place and 2 tenths from 4th”
After
some minor set up changes Harrison’s car was
ready for the 15 lap Race 1. “We have
changed the car a little bit for the race and we expect that it will come good
in the closing stages of the race” commented Harrison.
After
an extended safety car period the race continued with Harrison
battling for position against then Championship leader Brad Lowe. On lap 10 they approached turn 1 and collided
in the braking zone resulting in one less corner on Harrison’s car “It’s a shame
that the accident happened, I did everything I could to avoid contact but I
ended up replacing my Formula Ford for an Aeroplane”
The
damage from Harrison’s flying experience was
severe and despite the team’s very best efforts they were not able to make it
out for race 2. “We gave it our all and I would like to thank everyone for
trying their very best to get the car on the circuit, im not disappointed
instead im focusing on how to claw my way through the field in the final race”
Starting
from 24th position in the third and final race Harrison
played Mr. Conservative and chipped away each lap through the carnage and
finished 7th. “Im really
happy with the end result considering where I started, the Mygale was spot on,
my aim was to pass one or two cars per lap”
Trent would
like to thank all the crew and his sponsors, Monza Motors, Mygale, Penrite, MG
Multimedia, Evershine Waterless, Rankins Panels and Eastern Race Fabrication.
The
next round of the championship is at Sandown Raceway in Victoria on June 7-9. Meanwhile catch race 3 from Wakefield on Channel 7 during the NZ V8
Supercar telecast, Saturday 19th April.
