It was all smiles and excitement at a Northamptonshire school when
Andrew Jordan and Tom Onslow-Cole dropped by to present one pupil with
her prize for coming up with a winning poster design for Rockingham’s
forthcoming rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship
(Sunday 13 April).
Jordan and Onslow-Cole attended
the Kilsby Church of England Primary School in Rugby after Rockingham
launched a countywide competition asking youngsters to design a
promotional poster that celebrated five decades of the BTCC.
Ten-year-old Eleanor Shimwell’s entry was voted the winner by John
Guest ace Jordan and both he and VXR driver Onslow-Cole popped in to
meet her classmates, sign autographs and answer questions about the
BTCC.
In addition to the visit by the two drivers,
the youngster won art equipment for her class, plus family VIP
hospitality at Rockingham’s BTCC meeting this coming Sunday 13 April
and a signed, framed edition of her poster.
Eleanor’s
teacher Mark Lockhart, said: “All the Year 5 and 6 children took part
in the competition, which really caught their imaginations. They were
very enthusiastic when it came to designing their posters and even did
some research on the internet.
“We are really
pleased for Eleanor and hope she has a good day out at Rockingham. We
would like to thank Andrew and Tom for coming along to the school. The
children thoroughly enjoyed the visit.”
The John
Guest team now plans to print a run of the poster for Andrew and his
father Mike to sign for fans during the race day autograph session at
Rockingham.
All-day adult tickets for the event
can still be booked for just £21.00 – including grandstand seat and
BTCC paddock entry – by visitingwww.rockingham.co.uk or calling the ticket hotline 0871 321 0846. Admission for children aged 15 and under is FREE.
