Tom Onslow-Cole aims to bounce back from his monster Brands Hatch
shunt with a return to the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship
podium at Rockingham this weekend – a circuit where 12 months ago he
achieved his first podium result in the series.
The
20-year-old’s Vauxhall Vectra VXR was wrecked when it hit the barriers
virtually head-on in Brands’ third race. In the ten days since his VX
Racing crew has effectively built him up a new car using a spare shell.
He will race his repaired car at the following event at Donington Park
on 4 May.
Onslow-Cole, from Kingston, Surrey, said: “I will be absolutely fine
for Rockingham following my accident at Brands Hatch and I’m really
looking forward to racing at Rockingham again as it brought me my
first-ever podium finish last year, so hopefully that’s a good omen.
“The Vectra VXR is a really good car and I left Brands Hatch feeling confident and happy within the team.”
Team principal Ian Harrison told BTCC.net: “It was the biggest shunt we’ve encountered in 12 years.
“It’s
been a tough turn-around for the guys back at base and full credit to
them – in just ten days they will have put together a car that I know
will be every bit as good as the one Tom raced at Brands.
“Certainly
the shunt wasn’t Tom’s fault – he was an innocent bystander. In fact,
looking at how race three panned out he may have got on the podium had
it not been for the crash. He’s doing a very solid job.”
