Ambrose looks to team effort in Pheonix PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 10 April 2008

Marcos Ambrose is confident that his team can produce a team effort at the tough Phoenix International Raceway for the Bashas Supermarkets 200 in Phoenix, Arizona this weekend. Ambrose qualified in the top 10 for the spring race at Phoenix last season on his way to a 22nd place finish.

It is the second Phoenix race later in the 2007 season that the Australian remembers fondly, with the Kingsford team toughing out a 15th place finish at the tricky 1.0-mile speedway, turning things around after a tough start to the weekend.

The team work, determination and persistence displayed on that day will be called upon again this weekend as the #59 Kingsford Hickory Ford Fusion looks to climb up the NASCAR Nationwide Series rankings.

“Phoenix is a tough race track and one of the best challenges of the season,” said Ambrose.

“The last time we raced at Phoenix was a great moment for the Kingsford team.

“We didn’t really have the speed and it was looking like being a long race, but not one member of our crew dropped their head.

“I remember us all working at it and thinking long and hard about things, and sure enough, come the race we improved the car gradually and had really strong pace at the end to finish 15th.

“It was one of those days that makes you proud to be a part of such a great team and a great bunch of people.

“That day really sums up Phoenix. It’s a tough place, so you really have to have to work as a team and keep working at it if you want to be in with a shot at it.”
