Freddy Nordstrom Fights Back at Rockingham in the Latest Rounds of the SEAT Cupra Championship. PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 14 April 2008

Surrey teenager, Freddy Nordstrom put on a brave display at the 3rd and 4th rounds ofrockthumb1.jpg the 2008 SEAT Cupra Championship held at Rockingham circuit in Northamptonshire.

Freddy, the youngest on the SEAT Cupra grid and in only his second race weekend in the new SEAT Leon, was in lightening form during qualifying. He took 5th on the grid for both of the weekend’s races, taking just one fast lap in second qualifying to post such a competitive time.

Round 3 took place on Saturday afternoon and was a sadly short affair for Freddy when a spin and contact at the start knocked the car’s tracking and caused severe vibrations throughout the car which meant Freddy was forced to retire.

Disappointed by the day before, Freddy was in fighting form for Round 4 on Sunday held in changeable conditions. Disaster appeared to strike when Freddy spun on the damp circuit early in the first lap but he made a remarkable save. The nature of the gear system is such that the car must come to a stand still before the gear can be reselected so Freddy was relegated to the back of the pack as his rivals sped away. rockthumb2.jpgBack in 13th, Freddy appeared more determined than ever, caught his competitors and began scything through the field. In doing so he posted three fastest laps consecutively, attracting the praise of the TV commentators. Freddy finished 7th, scoring valuable points and proving an unwavering level of determination in his PlumberTraining.com backed car.

“It is hard not to be disappointed” said Freddy afterwards, “especially given our strong qualifying but I was determined never to give in and was pleased to reel back in the points in the second race.”

Rounds 5 and 6 are held at Donington Park on 3-4 May. Freddy’s season can be followed on his website www.freddynordstrom.com. The series is featured on ITV4.
