Although Marshall has not driven his Irwin Racing Ford Falcon for a month, he has been close to top-level motor sport by attending the NASCAR Sprint Cup event in Martinsville (USA) with Irwin Industrial Tools. The opportunity to see inside the IRWIN Racing team in the US has well and truly charged Marshall’s batteries. Getting back in the Falcon V8 Supercar on a new track has Marshall even more excited. “A new track and a renewed enthusiasm has me looking forward to the race in Hamilton,” said Marshall “The three races in the one month was a hectic way to start the year – but it was good for our group as we quickly got to know each other. Since the Grand Prix event we have really got our heads around moving forward. “Now that we have had a break we are all really keen to get back on track and show some progress. “You can never stand still in this game,” said Foletta. “We have made some updates to the car, plus we are working better as a team. I’m sure we can justifiably look forward to a strong showing. “A new track does provide a different challenge, but it’s one that we are looking forward to. The IRWIN Racing Falcon takes to the track for extended practice on Friday. Qualifying will be held Saturday morning with the opening 36-lap race later that afternoon. Sunday completed the action with another two 36-lap races. 2007 V8 Supercar Championship Series Round 3, Hamilton, NZ CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS – After round 2 of 14 1. Jamie Whincup – 540 points 2. Check local guides ABOUT THE TRACK After seven years of competition at the Pukekohe circuit near Auckland this year’s New Zealand round moves to the Hamilton street circuit. On paper the circuit looks fast with some long straights and a tight complex of turns to finish the lap. The turn two hairpin will be a major passing zone and the slowest on the circuit at an estimated 65km/h, while cars will be forced to brake hard after the run along the pit straight into a tight first corner. Location: Frankston business district, Hamilton, NZ Circuit length: 3.4km Circuit direction: Clockwise Average speed: 141 km/h (estimated) Maximum speed: 240 km/h (estimated) |
