Formula Fitness has been
appointed as the official training company for the British Racing Drivers’ Club
(BRDC) Superstars. In the new BRDC initiative, which follows on from the BRDC
Rising Stars programme, drivers will be able to access the wide range of
facilities and expertise on offer at the University of Oxford Sports Department
where Formula Fitness has its base.
BRDC Superstars Director Tim Harvey was
quick to point out the benefits of working with the company who can boast
drivers in almost every major motor racing championship. “Formula Fitness has
been an excellent partner for the BRDC Superstars programme. Its facilities,
professionalism and unique skill sets will help the next generation of British
drivers achieve their ultimate goals.”
The
UK’s number 1 driver training company has been
training more racing drivers than any other company in the
UK for the past decade. Fourteen drivers will benefit
from the programme and Stewart Wild, Company Director and Chief Trainer is
relishing the prospect of working with some of the country’s top up and coming
racing drivers.
“Over the years Formula Fitness has
worked with some of the major drivers now competing at the highest levels and
it’s a privilege to be able to work alongside the next generation hoping to move
up the motor racing ladder. It’s becoming increasingly apparent how important
physical fitness is to the overall success of a driver and we are delighted to
be able to play a role in their development at this early stage in their
careers.”
Formula Fitness offers a comprehensive
range of Human Performance Services, together with various associated services
from some of the countries finest professionals. After assessing a driver’s
fitness levels they design a specific fitness programme tailored to their needs
and work with the driver one-to-one at the Oxford based facility to maximise their results.
This programme works the key areas such
as strength, endurance and CV but also goes beyond these basics. This is where
Formula Fitness differs from other training providers. Formula Fitness trainers
work the additional critical aspects of motor skills (speed, agility, balance,
reaction time and dexterity) as well as focusing on neck training, flexibility
and psychology.
The 14 BRDC Superstars are: A1GP driver
Duncan Tappy, GP2 racer Ben Hanley, BTCC’s Mat Jackson and SEAT Cupra driver
Jonathan Adam, LMS racers Joey Foster and Stuart Hall, Euro F3 drivers Jon
Lancaster, Sam Bird and from British F3 Max Chilton, Oliver Turvey and Stefan
Wilson, British GT racer James Sutton, Riki Christodoulou from British Formula
Renault and British Formula Ford driver Wayne Boyd.
The young British hopefuls join Formula
Fitness’s current crop of drivers that includes World Series by Renault race
winner James Walker, WSR and A1GP Mexico ace Salvador Duran and F3 drivers
Rodolfo Gonzalez, Richard Philippe, Steven Guerrero, Sergio Perez and Salman Al
Khalifa.
