With the credit crunch hanging like a dark cloud over many people’s heads, one
person really feeling the strain is newly crowned VXR Racing Driver of the Year
John Allison.
The 34-year-old from Beverley is juggling his
nine-to-five job as a mortgage consultant as well as preparing for his first
season as a racing driver.
After beating over ten-thousand hopefuls in
Vauxhall’s competition for a member of the public to win a fully sponsored drive
in the Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup, John’s new commitment will see him hit a gruelling
70-hour working week, over 27-hours more the national average, but he says he
wouldn’t change it for the world.
“When I entered the competition I didn’t actually
think I might win” said the mortgage consultant. I never gave it a second
thought how it may change my life, but believe me it has!
“Obviously you can never prepare for the climate
of the economy, but I can prepare myself for races and if that means putting in
the extra hours hitting the gym or mountain biking then so be it, I believe it
will pay off in the long run.”

John also gives advice to hopefuls thinking of entering the 2008
VXR Racing Driver of the Year competition which is now open to applicants.
“Winning the VXR Racing Driver of the Year competition has been
hard work but also a dream come true. The positives definitely outweigh the
negatives and I would recommend entering the competition to anyone.
“The whole experience has been amazing and if I work hard enough,
in a few years I may be able to give up my job as a mortgage consultant and
become a professional racing driver!”
Swapping his suit and tie for Vauxhall racing overalls in just 13
days time, John will compete at Snetterton, Norfolk on 27 April in the first
round of the Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup, where he will complete his transition to a
racing driver.
