Kizilirmak wants more wet races PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 April 2008

He may come from scorching hot Turkey, but Erkut Kizilirmak says he wants more rain on future HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship race days after soaking wet conditions at Rockingham yesterday helped him pick up his first points finish of the 2008 season.

Kizilirmak kept it together to finish tenth in the day’s rain-lashed third race in which several highly-fancied runners fell by the wayside.

Notably, his fastest lap in the conditions in his Arkas Racing with Sunshine.co.uk Vauxhall Astra was within half a second of reigning champion Fabrizio Giovanardi’s Vauxhall Vectra VXR.

The former Turkish touring car champion said: “I was probably meant to be born an Englishman as I seem to like this weather! I’ve been teased about being the ‘Rain Master’, maybe I am, maybe I’m not, but after today I am hoping for more wet races.”

He added: “Everybody was congratulating me when I got out of the car but I was a bit frustrated as I know where I made some mistakes and where I could have been faster.

“The car was fantastic, the team is working really well and if the start hadn’t been delayed we would have been in an even better position as we were one of the first to make the decision to go to wet tyres.

“It was big fun today, I’m very happy and pleased to see my team-mate Martyn Bell in the Independent points too.”
