Rejuvenated Metcalfe Delighted With Donington Pace PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 27 July 2006
Formula Renault UK Championship contender Jeremy Metcalfe ended today’s official test session at Donington Park National Circuit delighted with his pace and consistency ahead of this weekend’s 11th and 12th rounds of the season.

The 18-year-old, who is currently sixth overall in the title chase, set the second fastest time during this morning’s session and although concluding the day fifth overall with his lap of 1m 06.634 seconds (105.74mph) from the afternoon period, the AKA Lemac star has every confidence he will make a welcome return to the podium on Sunday.

Having traded fastest laps with championship rival Sam Bird throughout the second of today’s 65-minute sessions, Jeremy lost some ground towards the end of the test having been balked by Richard Keen on what would have been his fastest lap of the day.

Nonetheless, the BillChaser-backed Fleet teenager is determined to renew his title push this weekend at the 1.95-mile Leicestershire circuit and is rightly confident he has the pace to challenge for a podium finish at the least in both of Sunday’s 16-lap races, which will be broadcast live on Motors TV.

“It’s been a really good test for us”, said the Hampshire ace, “We were either first or second fastest throughout the afternoon session on older tyres. When everyone put new tyres on though, we waited a little longer and it unfortunately didn’t pay off as we lost track time due to some stoppages.

“I only had one real flying lap on fresh rubber but that was good enough for fifth overall so I’m pleased with that as we’ve gone very well today and I know I can be consistently fast this weekend. There’s a chance we could have gone even quicker but I was blocked at Goddards and that ended up being our final lap.”

Jeremy added: “I’ve got a good feeling ahead of this weekend. I’ve had a couple of relaxing weeks since Croft and I feel rejuvenated. Now I’m looking forward to qualifying and the races and being able to make up some ground on the championship top three.”

The round 11 qualifying session will take place at 10.35 on Saturday, 29th July, with round 12 qualifying set to get underway at 15.10. Both races will then be held on Sunday, 30th July, with round 11 starting at 09.10 and round 12 expected to begin at approximately 14.20.

Motors TV, which will broadcast Sunday’s race action live, is available to Sky Digital viewers via channel 413 and to NTL cable customers on channel 173.
