Power 9th on day 1 at Long Beach PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 19 April 2008
Will Power has finished ninth fastest in opening qualifying for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach in California today.

Power was third fastest in practice earlier in the day in the #8 Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia car, but did not enjoy the same success in qualifying. The Australian struggled with traffic and was unable to get a clear lap in and also lacked the pace of the front-runners, suffering from brake problems.

Power is looking for improvement tomorrow when final qualifying will be held at the famous seaside street circuit in what is the final event for Champ Car.

Justin Wilson was fastest in provisional qualifying today ahead of Power’s KV Racing Technology team-mate Oriol Servia and series veteran Alex Tagliani.

WHAT THE TEAM HAD TO SAY …

Will Power - #8 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia DP01

“This was a bad session for me,” said Power.

“I was unable to get a lap and then on my best lap, which was still not that great, I got stuck behind traffic.

“We need to go back and take a look at a couple of issues we have with braking and hopefully we can move the KVRT Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia car further up the grid tomorrow.”

Craig Gore - Team Australia

“Not the best day for Will today but the team will work at getting things better for tomorrow,” said Gore.

“It’s still early days so there is time to improve. Will is very, very determined to do well this weekend in the final Champ Car race and I think you will see the green and gold Aussie Vineyards car closer to the front tomorrow.

“It’s shaping to be a very exciting race and I’m confident Will is going to be one of the cars to watch and we can get back on track.”
