Will Power has finished ninth fastest in opening qualifying for the Toyota Grand
Prix of Long Beach in California today. Power was third fastest in practice earlier in the day in the #8 Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia car, but did not enjoy the same success in qualifying. The Australian struggled with traffic and was unable to get a clear lap in and also lacked the pace of the front-runners, suffering from brake problems. Power is looking for improvement tomorrow when final qualifying will be held at the famous seaside street circuit in what is the final event for Champ Car. Justin Wilson was fastest in provisional qualifying today ahead of Power’s KV Racing Technology team-mate Oriol Servia and series veteran Alex Tagliani. WHAT THE TEAM HAD TO SAY … Will Power - #8 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia DP01 “This was a bad session for me,” said Power. “I was unable to get a lap and then on my best lap, which was still not that great, I got stuck behind traffic. “We need to go back and take a look at a couple of issues we have with braking and hopefully we can move the KVRT Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia car further up the grid tomorrow.” Craig Gore - Team Australia “Not the best day for Will today but the team will work at getting things better for tomorrow,” said Gore. “It’s still early days so there is time to improve. Will is very, very determined to do well this weekend in the final Champ Car race and I think you will see the green and gold Aussie Vineyards car closer to the front tomorrow. “It’s shaping to be a very exciting race and I’m confident Will is going to be one of the cars to watch and we can get back on track.” RESULTS: Provisional Qualifying 1. #02 Justin Wilson 1:07.356 2. #5 Oriol Servia 1:07.858 3. #15 Alex Tagliani 1:07.887 4. #96 Mario Dominguez 1:07.998 5. #06 Graham Rahal 1:08.172 6. #36 Enrique Bernoldi 1:08.272 7. #7 Franck Montagny 1:08.325 8. #3 Paul Tracy 1:08.488 9. #8 Will Power 1:08.519 10. #33 EJ Viso 1:08.532 2008 IndyCar Series Points Standings - After Race 2 1. #3 Helio Castroneves 72 2. #9 Scott Dixon 62 3. #11 Tony Kanaan 59 4. #26 Marco Andretti 53 5. #10 Dan Wheldon 53 6. #06 Graham Rahal 50 7. #7 Danica Patrick 48 8. #33 EJ Viso 45 9. #5 Oriol Servia 44 10. #20 Ed Carpenter 42 16. #8 Will Power 34 2008 Bombardier Rookie of the Year Standings - After Race 2 1. #06 Graham Rahal 50 2. #33 EJ Viso 45 3. #36 Enrique Bernoldi 42 4. #27 Hideki Mutoh 40 5. #02 Justin Wilson 37 6. #8 Will Power 34 7. #34 Franck Perera 28 8. #24 Jay Howard 28 9. #19 Mario Moraes 28 RACE SCHEDULE Local California (US Pacific) Times Final Practice Saturday 19 April 2008 10:15am – 11:25am Final Qualifying Saturday 19 April 2008 2:00pm – 3:00pm Warm-Up Sunday 20 April 2008 9:05am – 9:35am Race – 34th Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Sunday 20 April 2008 1:00pm – 3:00pm UNITED STATES TV SCHEDULE Sunday 20 April 2008 ESPN2 5:30pm US Eastern *United States Motegi TV Schedule Saturday 19 April 2008 ESPN2 12:00am US Eastern ! *US Replay – Saturday 19 April 2008 ESPN 3:00pm US Eastern AUSTRALIAN TIMES Australian Eastern Standard Times Final Practice Sunday 20 April 2008 3:15am – 4:25am Final Qualifying Sunday 20 April 2008 7:00am – 8:00am Warm-Up Monday 21 April 2008 2:05am – 2:35am Race – 34th Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Monday 21 April 2008 6:00am – 8:00am AUSTRALIAN TV SCHEDULE Monday 21 April 2008 ESPN 7:30am - 9:30am AEST AUSTRALIAN TV REPLAY Monday 21 April 2008 ESPN 7:30pm AEST *Australian Motegi TV Schedule Saturday 19 April 2008 ESPN 2:00pm - 4:00pm AEST ABOUT LONG BEACH STREET CIRCUIT Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Venue: Streets of !
