Fujitsu Racing’s Jason Bright has taken his first top-10 overall result of the
V8 Supercar Championship season, at the inaugural Hamilton 400 in New Zealand.
In an event that took its toll on plenty of cars, Bright was one of only
16 drivers, out of the 29 that entered this weekend, to complete all three
races.
The Fujitsu Racing team hit back after a tough practice session on Friday where
it was placed 23rd to then qualify 13th.
Bright’s 10th place overall at
the third round of the season was hard earned across all three races, with 11th
place in race #1, 12th in race #2 and 13th in the final race of the weekend.
“To get a top-10 is pleasing, especially after having three very tough
races,” said Bright.
“There were a lot of challenges, a new track,
tricky weather and very hard racing.
“We had far from a perfect weekend
and I’m sure if we had three clean races we would have been a lot further up.
“In race #1 I hit the wall, race #2 we had a slow pit stop and I
collected the tyre bundles, then I had a spin in the final race! However, we
kept our head down and completed all three races which was key to the top-10
overall result.
“We are still lacking in a few areas, but we will
improve and look to establish ourselves well inside the top-10.”
Fujitsu
Racing Chief Engineer Geoff Slater was pleased to crack the top-10 and is now
switching his attention to an all-new car for the next round at Barbagallo in
Perth.
“We had a difficult weekend, so to come away with a top-10 is a
great team result,” said Slater.
“A lot of other teams took very big
hits this weekend. We have a relatively straight car after three very hard
races.
“At the moment we have a top-10 if not a top-5 car. However, we
are simply not consistent in all three races and we have to get on top of that.
“Our plan is to have the new car ready for the next race in Perth. It
will be a marked improvement in a lot of areas and now that we have got through
this weekend we can switch our full attention to it.”
The next round
will be held in Perth on May 9-11.
