BMW ace excited heading to Donington
Three more solid finishes are the aim for Barrow-upon-Humber racer Martyn Bell as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to Donington Park this Sunday (30 July) for the latest round of the season.
Martyn and the Geoff Steel Racing team head to the newly refurbished venue fresh from a confidence building weekend last time out at Croft and are eager to ‘go racing’ at the circuit where the ex-WTCC BMW 320i turned a wheel for the first time in Bell’s hands back in March.
Then the East Midlands circuit was hit by heavy rain, and while it is
unlikely that the team will be able to put the knowledge gained that
day to good use in the fine weather expected this weekend, Martyn is
looking forward to his second ‘home’ round in succession.
“This should arguably be one of our strongest circuits,” he said, “and
it’s one of my favourite tracks on the calendar alongside Oulton Park.
At Croft, I was losing time though the ‘Mickey Mouse’ stuff at the end
of the lap, but at Donington it is all very fast and flowing and that
should suit the BMW really well.
“If it rains, then even better because the car felt great in the wet
when we tested earlier in the year, but even if it doesn’t, I’m really
looking forward to going racing. I’ve always looked forward to it, but
never as much as I do ahead of this weekend.”
The Croft weekend left Martyn and the team ‘oozing with confidence’ as
they continue to learn the BMW and heading to Donington, the aims for
the weekend are clear.
“We want to get three more solid finishes and I want to get to a
position where I am driving smoothly again,” Bell added. “The
confidence I have in the car is growing and it is really coming to us –
we now have a car to go racing with. If I can drive it smoothly, then
the speed will come.”
