The Stars of Irelands fastest growing Motorsport, the Pro-Drift Irish Drifting Championship, return to Mondello Park for their second event of the season at the Co. Kildare venue. Round four of the pro championship takes place on Sunday with the Semi-Pro and Novice classes competing on Saturday.
Drifting, the art of driving sideways through a series of bends and straights, is a spectacular new form of motorsport where competitors rely on skill rather than speed to progress through to the finals. Each competitor's solo runs are judged with the top sixteen making it through to the the knockout finals where the driver must battle wheel to wheel for supremacy.
The strength of Irish Drifting is demonstrated by Irish driver's records abroad and this weekends event includes current UK and Irish champion Damien Mulvey and a host of drivers who have competed and taken part in demonstrations all over Europe.
Also on the bill At Mondello will be round two of the first ever IRish Time Attack Championship. Time Attack is anew opportunity for car builders to test their abilities and that of their car on a one lap sprint around the Mondello circuit.
Time Attack grew from the desire of drivers to move away from the purely acceleration based drag racing to something which tests the all round ability of their car and their driving skills.
Time Attack is relatively new to Ireland and having been run as a one off at last seasons Mondello Park AutoFest it has this season expanded into a three round series will all of the events taking place at mondello alongside the circuits drift championship rounds.
The Time Attack will run on circuit in the intervals between Drifting runs which get underway at 2:00pm with the whole day building towards the last sixteen battles.
