Matt Connolly Motorsports is
happy to announce the addition of North Carolina based driver Tom Long to
partner the MCM #21 Pontiac GTO-R at Virginia International Raceway this
weekend with Italian Sportscar Veteran Diego Alessi. Alessi and the #21 entry has been running
near the front of the grid at every event, including leading at one point at
Homestead, and are looking for that perfect blend that will get them to that
top step of the podium.
The 25 year old Long has been
coming up the American Sportscar ranks steadily and brings an impressive resume
with him. Tom finished 5th in
driver points last season in the Koni Challenge Series with three pole
positions and starting in the Top 5 in 10 of 12 events, including 6 Top 5
finishes. VIR is his home circuit, and
the team is looking for Tom to help Diego get acclimated that much faster so
they can focus on the real task at hand, the exact set up that will provide the
results at the end. Alessi is
experiencing many of the North American circuits for the first time, but that
hasn’t provided any road blocks as he is a quick study and is normally in the
top 5 by the end of the first day.
The MCM team is also happy to be
carrying the USMC logo’s for this event, as well as the Wounded Support Fund
charity that assists Marines and Sailors coming home that have been wounded in
the course of their duties to protect the freedoms of the American citizens.
The team would like to thank
sponsors Lucy Plast S.P.A., USMC, P1 Groupe, Barbetti, Davide Cenci, Black Flag
Gear, ERREMME and Pacific Teaze for their continued support for the 2008 racing
season.
