Drag Racing icon Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens is on the verge of again etching his name into the history books by becoming the only person in the world to win National Drag Racing Championships in three separate professional categories.

Competing at the Nitro Champs at the Western Sydney International Dragway this weekend (2nd–3rd May), Stevens will line up his Kitten Car Care Products Funny Car in the Top Alcohol bracket in a prime position to wrap up the Title with only one other racer a mathematical possibility of catching him in the points chase.

Stevens, who won the 2004 ANDRA Top Doorslammer Championship and the 2005 ANDRA Top Bike Championship, has put his competition on notice out that he is now on mission to add the 2008 ANDRA Top Alcohol Championship trophy to his mantle in Sydney.

“Last year it came down to the very last round in Top Alcohol at Willowbank Raceway where I was just pipped at the post and had to settle for runner up,” Stevens said.

“This season though my fantastic Kitten Car Care Products car and team have been the benchmark performers at just about every round and we are now in the position of potentially being able to wrap up the Title with one round still in the bag.”

“But it isn’t going to be easy as every team out there wants to beat us now on the back of all our recent performances.”

“Last time out we set the record as Australia’s fastest ever Top Alcohol Funny Car so we are bring good form into the Nitro Champs, and I will be looking for my fourth win of the season in the bracket to make sure the Championship is put to bed.”

Stevens will also be saddling up in Top Bike alongside team mate Troy McLean on the two Jack Daniel’s Racing Nitro Harley’s, although it is McLean that will be shooting for the teams second Championship for the season.

This is McLean’s fifth full season competing in Top Bike with two second places and two third places already under his belt, however he is the odds on favourite coming into the Nitro Champs to secure his maiden Title for the team.

“I am actually in very similar situation to what Brett is in the Kitten Funny Car with just one other racer that can catch me with two rounds left to race, but with a good result in Sydney I can wrap it all up,” McLean said.

“Despite my lead it will be tough though, the Top Bike bracket has really stepped up this season and the competition is incredibly strong with a number of racers who can pull out the numbers to win.”

“We will just have to have our bikes at the top of their game and do what we have been doing all season.”

“After always being up there in the Championship I now have the opportunity to finally take it out which would be a great reward for my team’s hard work over the years.”
