Leading V8 Supercar outfit Britek Motorsport is powering across Australia with
Western Star and Caterpillar power.
Britek Motorsport field entries for
Jason Bright’s #25 Fujitsu Racing Ford and the #26 IRWIN Racing Falcon of Marcus
Marshall in all 15 events that make-up the V8 Supercar Championship Series.
Britek uses a Western Star Constellation Series 4800FXB Model with 40-inch
Stratosphere walk-through sleeper. Power comes from a Caterpillar C15, 550HP
engine and features an Eaton Fuller 18-speed transmission and Meritor rear
axles. Other key features include an Airliner rear suspension, Alcoa aluminium
disc wheels and a Jost turntable.
“Western Star is pleased to be
associated with the Britek Motorsport team,” said Don Hanson, Marketing Manager
Western Star Trucks Australia.
“Britek’s commitment to excellence
certainly reflects Western Star’s approach to product quality and customer
service.
“Western Star achieved the largest market share gain of any
heavy-duty truck brand in Australia in 2007 (a gain of 1.5% to 8.4%), and the
growth has continued in the first quarter of 2008 with a market share of 11.4%.”
The importance of a quality prime mover is critical for the next round
at Barbagallo Raceway north of Perth.
The B-Double Britek race hauler
will leave on Saturday 3 May on the 4500km journey from its Dandenong base in
Melbourne to Perth.
Including the prime mover, plus the two trailers,
the fully loaded 26-metre rig weighs in at 52 tones and with all the racing
equipment aboard is valued at $3.5 million.
Joe Sullivan is Britek’s
fulltime truck driver, his experience in racing dates back to the early 1970s
when he first worked with Murray Carter.
Sullivan’s role with Britek is
the fulltime management of the team transporter as well as the race tyres.
“Ensuring a safe and comfortable journey is crucial,” said Sullivan.
“The addition of the Western Star prime mover has been a welcome
addition to Britek.
“On all events it is very important to have a
quality prime mover, but on the long-haul races to Perth and Darwin it does make
a huge difference.
“A good looking truck and trailer combination does
attract plenty of attention. With the Western Star up front of our rig we
certainly turn plenty of heads all over the country.”
