The Western Sydney International Dragway is hosting it’s final Group One event of the 2007/2008 ANDRA Championship Drag Racing season this weekend (2nd–3rd May) and will also see the return of the only female to ever win a professional Top Alcohol event.

Crowd favourite Debbie Reed from the Reed Racing team is set to make her first Championship passes since December last year when she suffered her first major accident of her professional Drag Racing career when an oil line gave out on her 3500 horsepower Dragster causing fluid to pour straight under her rear tyres at over 400 kph.

Luckily she was able to call on all of her skills as one of the county’s leading female drivers and managed to keep her car from hitting both the walls and the competitor in the other lane before it spun and rolled onto its top.

The car has now had an entire re-build from top to bottom in preparation for her return to the top ranks at the Nitro Champs where she will be looking to jump straight back into the heat of battle against the guys.

“I have been itching to get back out on track and can’t wait for the Nitro Champs, it will be great to be back behind the wheel in front of the fans again,” Debbie Reed said.

“We did a couple of exhibition test passes at Willowbank Raceway during the recently contested Tin Top Titles in Brisbane and everything seems to be running really well.”

“I have mixed emotion about the Western Sydney International Dragway, with it being the location on my first Group One win in 2006 and also my accident in 2007.”

“I still love coming down here though and with all the ups and downs it presents me with there always seems to be plenty of action!”

Team principle Steven Reed will also have his Reed Racing Funny Car competing in the Top Alcohol bracket in Sydney where he will be looking at acquiring a good haul of Championship points.

While out of contention to win this years Title, Steven is in a group of racers that have bottlenecked on the ladder all looking at securing the other positions in the Championship with just two rounds remaining in the 2007/2008 season.

“I have had a really consistent season in my Funny Car so far this year always being up there close to the top with some very tough competition but just haven’t had the luck to break through for a win,” Steven Reed said.

“I will be really stepping up my car and going all out in Sydney as a top 3 finish in the Championship is still a real possibility if results go our way.”

“With everyone really stretching for as many points as possible to move up the ladder though it will make for some spectacular racing.”
