Matt Connolly Motorsports is proving that consistently running at
the front has its rewards. Although the
podium has escaped their grasp so far this season, the consistent leadership
provided by Matt Connolly combined with the driving talent of full time driver
Diego Alessi and the preparation level of their ultra competitive Pontiac GTO-R
is proving to be a consistent package in the 2008 Rolex Grand American season.
To date, the MCM team has run at the front of the order in all
four rounds of this still young season, including leading briefly at the Miami
Grand Prix. Both the team and Alessi are
looking for that right combination of co-driver that will bring the finishing
touches necessary to capture the podium early and often as they know they have
been steadily knocking on the door this season.
The last time the MCM team could foresee victory was that ill
fated day that saw Joey Hand get taken out while leading after an impressive
run that began with his pole position start.
Connolly decided to go back to the well, only this time with Joey Hands’
protégé in up and coming driver Ryan Phinny.
Ryan comes from a very strong recommendation by Joey, and that is
carrying a lot of weight with Team Owner Matt Connolly: “Joey told me that Ryan
is the best driver he’s trained to date and coming from Joey that means a great
deal to me. I’ve seen firsthand what
Joey could do behind the wheel of one of my cars, and in like Joey knows we’ll
give Ryan a car to run at the front with.”
