The Queensland Formula Ford Championship is heating up in 2006, with the battle continuing at Morgan Park Raceway on August 26/27.
Season 2006 has seen in influx of new cars and drivers to the Queensland scene, with a change of regulations at a national level making state level competition more desirable than ever.
Although not in the latest model machinery, Paul Morris Motorsport V8 Supercar team manager Nigel Barclay, has been taking the challenge to the newer cars with some impressive results to date.
“There are a lot of new cars coming onto the state scene, which is good
for them, but not so good for us with older cars!” Barclay said.
“We've got to try so much harder to keep up, it's a good challenge, and it's good to see new drivers coming on with new gear.
“Even with a cheaper early 1990's model car you can be not too far off the game if you try hard.
“If you go and look through the record books at everyone who is doing well in V8 Supercars has come from Formula Ford.
“Everyone who comes and sees us at the Holden Performance Driving
Centre, we recommend that they go Formula Ford racing first, learn how
to drive and set up cars, and once you have those basics you can't go
wrong.”
The tight and demanding Morgan Park layout has produced some exciting
racing in the previous two meetings this year, with more expected on
August 26/27.
“It's going to be fun to race at Morgan Park, it's going to be hard to
pass because it's a tight little track, but it's good fun to drive
around,” said Barclay.
The Formula Fords are just one class on an action packed programme,
with a total of ten classes hitting the track for four races each over
the weekend.
Spectator viewing is available around Morgan Park Raceway, with viewing even possible from the comfort of your own car!
Entry forms are available on QRDA website, www.qrda.asn.au, with discount incentives of up to $35 available for early entry and for QRDA members.
