BAM Media founder and owner Brett “Crusher” Murray has been nominated as one of the Gold Coast’s 100 icons who have helped shape and best represent the city. In a promotion by the Gold Coat Bulletin and the Pacific Fair Shopping Centre – celebrating its 30th birthday – the general public is being asked to shorten that list to 30 by voting on-line.

Murray has built his now internationally recognised business over the last 20 years from his base on Australia’s tourism capital and is a constant ambassador for his “home” wherever he travels around the world.

Working behind the scenes on many charity and community events over the last 20 years, Murray is probably best known for his unquestionable passion for the Gold Coat Indy 300 which he has helped develop into one of the world’s most dynamic festivals.

BAM Media is regarded as one of the world’s best media, marketing, management and events companies and has offices in Melbourne, Charlotte North Carolina, London and its head office on the Gold Coast.

“To even be nominated as one of the 100 Gold Coast icons is a tremendous honour,” said Murray.

”When I look at some of the names on the list I am pretty humbled.

“The Gold Coast is the greatest place on the planet and I am more than happy to tell anyone, anywhere who is prepared to listen – and even plenty who aren’t.”

ABOUT THE 100 ICON PROGRAM

A COMMUNITY is defined by its people -- those who, through their actions and style, make a place special.

On the Gold Coast, there is no shortage of identities who have helped shape the city into the thriving metropolis and national icon it is today.

After 30 years of success on the Gold Coast, Pacific Fair shopping centre and The Gold Coast Bulletin are asking you to vote for the top 30 icons who have helped shape and best represent our city.

Pacific Fair has enlisted the help of local artists from the esteemed Royal Queensland Art Society (RQAS) to immortalise the chosen 30 Gold Coast icons with portraits that will be displayed in the Pacific Fair 30 Icons Art Exhibition.

Gold Coast Bulletin readers have been handed the challenge to narrow down the list of 60 famous local identities to 30 icons who best symbolise the fun, glamour and lifestyle we enjoy on the Coast today.

Once the 30 have been chosen, 70 RQAS artists will then spend two months creating the paintings.

The portraits will be judged by an independent assessor who will select 30 works to go on display at Pacific Fair for the month of August.

In mid-August, Pacific Fair will host a public auction of the 30 paintings, with proceeds going to the RQAS artists and charity organisation, The Create Foundation -- a charity for children and young people in care who are unable to live with their birth parents through no fault of their own.

Pacific Fair retail marketing manager Kate Cox said it was important the community became involved and offered opinions on who should be depicted on canvas as an icon of the Gold Coast.

"The Pacific Fair 30 Icons Art Exhibition is about the Gold Coast community and for the Gold Coast community, so it is vital that everyone has their say on who will go down in history as contributing to our wonderful city," she said.

Voting opens Saturday, May 3 and closes on Sunday, May 11, at 3pm.
