Ford Performance Racing made history at Barbagallo Raceway this weekend, sweeping the board for the first time in its V8 Supercar Championship Series career.Mark Winterbottom set pole in yesterday’s qualifying and took all three race victories at the WA circuit, despite difficult conditions in the unpredictable weather. The result puts him third in the championship just 24 points behind new leader Garth Tander. Team-mate, Steve Richards, performed an awesome fight back after Mark Skaife ran into him on lap one of today’s first race. The incident brought out the safety car, allowing Richo to get in and out of the pits without being lapped. He then drove a stunning race to finish ninth, making up 20 places in the process.

Starting from row five in race three, Richo stretched his first stint as long as he could to take advantage of the free track before pitting on lap 34. The strategy earned him one place and he then passed James Courtney to finish seventh overall. Mark Winterbottom#5 Orrcon Ford Credit FPR Falcon “We just had the best car this weekend. Sometimes it all just goes your way. It happened at Bahrain last year and here today but it can’t always be like that. We’ll be trying to make sure that next weekend we do the same though!  “My Race Engineer, Dan Kroehn, has been with the team all year but we’ve had our old engineer overlooking him. This is his first as a standalone and I think it’s a pretty good start; it’s the best you could hope for! He should be beaming with confidence and I know we’re only going to get better. “I’ve always said the best rounds are still to come. Perth, in the past, has been Holden territory so to knock them off here is a big achievement. They’re all good rounds for us to come now so we’re in a great position.” Steve Richards#6 Castrol FPR Falcon “After what happened with Skaife our whole intention was to gain track position by doing fast laps with no one in front, which is why we ran long on the pits. It was the right strategy and I’m pretty pleased with the way it went considering. “I’m frustrated though. We could have been fourth in the championship, instead of fifth, and closed the gap right up. We know we had the pace. It was a good fight back but I’m still thinking about what could have been.” Tim EdwardsTeam Principal
“It’s a long time since Ford won here so it’s absolutely fantastic that we’ve been able to deliver this for them. And what a fitting tribute to Geoff Polites [Ford Australia President between 1999 and 2004], who put the motorsport programme in place that we are all enjoying today.”  BigPond 400 - 2008 V8 Supercar Championship SeriesRound 4 – Race 2
