Oulton Park circuit will host the second Renault
Sport UK charity duathlon during the British Touring Car Championship meeting in
July, The event, consisting of two laps of cycling split by one lap of running,
is scheduled to take place on Friday, 25th July following the day of
free practise for support races. The North West Air Ambulance is the charity
nominated to receive all funds raised through a £15 per person entry fee
Formula Renault UK Championship
race-winner Alexander Sims (Peterborough) won the inaugural event held last year
at Donington Park during the World Series by Renault event. The 20-year-old has
pledged his commitment to compete again in 2008 around the picturesque and
undulating 2.23-mile Cheshire venue.
Drivers, engineers and team
management from the BTCC and all support championships are invited to take part.
The format is designed as either an individual or team event with up to three
members per team. Every person must complete three laps, with the team’s time
recorded when the final member crosses the finish line. Individuals are also
invited to enter as a separate class.
Renault Sport UK’s team will
consist of Technical Manager Allen Collen, Media Officer Simon Murphy and
Championship Manager Simon North, who hopes to see a wide variety of entries.
Simon North commented: “All racing drivers list fitness as a key part of their
training so we wanted to find out just who is the fittest. It is a charity event
to raise funds for a worthy cause so there is a large fun element, but drivers
are so competitive it is bound to add an extra edge. We also extend our thanks
to Oulton Park and Jonathan Palmer for hosting the event.
“The timetable at Oulton Park
is ideal for the event because it is a relatively early finish on Friday
evening. Hopefully we will see entries from BTCC, SEAT, Porsche and Ginetta and
anyone else connected with the race meeting who wants to enter and help raise
funds for the North West Air Ambulance. It relies on contributions alone and
does such valuable work and we are delighted to offer them a
donation.”
