Jason Plato has donated to children’s medical charity Sparks the £100
he won on BBC2’s television cooking show Ready Steady Cook.
The programme, broadcast earlier today, saw SEAT driver Plato cook
up spicy carrot soup, bruschetta and Italian sirloin steak, accompanied
by fried savoy cabbage, potato tower and a beef burger.
Aided
by leading Italian chef Gino D’Acampo, Jason’s work proved a hit with
the studio audience who voted him the winner over kitchen rival –
motoring journalist Tom Ford.
Celebrity chef and
presenter Ainsley Harriott awarded Jason the coveted Ready Steady Cook
Winner’s Plate which Plato has promised to eat his supper off for
eternity!
And the £100 the show donates to the
winner’s chosen charity has gone the way of Sparks that funds medical
research into all conditions and disabilities affecting children, with
the aim of ensuring that all babies are born healthy and stay healthy.
Plato,
who himself became a father two weeks ago, said: “There was no
competition really. Even though Tom tried to get the sympathy vote by
walking on crutches, the audience clearly knew top food when they saw
it!
“Gino is a great guy and we got on really well
in the kitchen. I did put coriander into the beef burger mix instead of
parsley, put too much garlic on the bruschetta and the spicy soup
almost blew my head off, but it all worked out very well.”
Plato
will surely be hoping his victory is a sign of things to come as he
prepares to race in this coming Sunday’s (18 May) three HiQ MSA British
Touring Car Championship rounds at Thruxton.
