| Marshall after qualifying at Queensland Raceway today |
Glenfords Racing's Marcus Marshall will start on the front row of the grid tomorrow after a tough day on the track for the team's debut at Queensland Raceway.
Cooler conditions than the practice session saw slower times throughout the field during today's qualifying and Marshall finished in position 29 for the first race with a time of 1:11.9907 around the 3.1km Queensland raceway circuit.
Marshall made a strong start in the Glenfords AEG Falcon, gaining two positions and then coming through turn four and five, Marshall was forced to take evasive action and lift the throttle as John Bowe came in too deep into turn three, forcing Marshall to fall back the positions he gained.
After passing Owen and Jose Fernandez on lap seven, Marshall stopped for his compulsory pit stop, changing the rear tyres.
Rejoining the race, Marshall pushed on in 28th position and then 27th when Fernandez completed his stop and couldn't get out in front of Marshall.
Pulling away from Fernandez, the Glenfords AEG number 20 Falcon focussed on catching Warren Luff before a safety car came out on lap 25, bunching up the field with only a handful of laps remaining.
On the restart, Marshall was under pressure from Mark Skaife who was making his way back through the field before running wide at turn three when trying to pass Luff, dropping Marshall to the rear of the bunched up field.
Catching the back of the pack again, Marshall ran out of laps to challenge for position and finished 28th.
Marshall will start on the front row of the grid tomorrow in position two in the 45-lap reverse grid race two at 11.30am.
MARCUS MARSHALL
"Qualifying was a little disappointing, we made an adjustment to the front springs but probably made too much so we'll adjust it back a bit for the race. We showed a lot more pace in practice so we know there is still a fair bit left in the car," Marshall said after qualifying.
"The race started well but we probably didn't get to where we wanted to and then when I was having a go at (Warren) Luff I got caught out on the dirty track and lost a couple of positions.
"The guys are working hard and we'll make the most of our position on the grid tomorrow.we're making a few changes for the race tomorrow so I'm looking forward to getting out there again.
PAUL CRUICKSHANK
"Today was disappointing for the team; we were quicker here last week in testing so we need to get up to those times."
"We're changing the gearbox overnight and will fine tune the setup for tomorrow as well but we need to start climbing up the grid a bit more and hopefully that'll happen tomorrow."
