Martin
enjoys FPA guest drive as Alex remains in championship
hunt
Ex-Formula 1 driver Martin Brundle
and his son, Alex, each secured a hat-trick of top ten finishes at last
weekend’s Formula Palmer Audi Championship meeting – with Brundle Junior now
just three points shy of third place in the drivers’ title race.
ITV F1 commentator Martin joined Alex at Spa-Francorchamps circuit in
Belgium for his first major
competitive outing since leading at Le
Mans for Bentley in 2001.
Alex – who has already achieved his
maiden pole position and three podium finishes so far this season – scored some
solid points towards his championship campaign by taking sixth, ninth and tenth
place finishes. He has now collected 109 points in total this season and lies
just three points adrift of joint third place drivers Jack Clarke and Ivan
Lukashevich.
Martin also scored three top eight
finishes commenting: “I enjoyed racing this weekend as much as ever. When an FPA
car became available, this unique window of opportunity to race against my son
at the magnificent Spa track was an easy decision. I was very pleased and even
relieved to find that I still have speed and
commitment. “
Martin Brundle concluded: “I’ve been
really impressed by the young drivers in this year’s Formula Palmer Audi
Championship. This weekend was good hard racing, these aspiring young hot shoes
take no prisoners, they are fully on it. In the third race I had a cracking
tussle with Russian Ivan Lukashevich – even though I’m three times his age! A
great experience all round for me”
