Jeremy Metcalfe heads to Donington Park National Circuit a week from
now determined to reinvigorate his 2006 Formula Renault UK Championship
bid and make an overdue return to his rightful spot on the podium.
After a terrific start to only his second season in car racing, the AKA
Lemac sensation has experienced something of a downturn in fortunes
during recent rounds but he is still within the top six in the title
standings and confident of moving back up the order during rounds 11
and 12 of the year at Donington Park.
“We were fast during winter testing”, said Jeremy, “But if we continue
to have this very hot weather when we get to Donington next week it’ll
make what we learned with all of the testing miles pretty irrelevant as
it was very cold the last time we were there.
“Having said that, I’m confident we’ll run at the front and I’m aiming
for nothing less than a couple of podiums as I want to get my
championship back on track. I was a little bit disappointed with the
second race at Croft but things like that happen. We haven’t had the
best run lately but we’ve still been scoring fairly well and that’s the
main thing.”
With three podiums, two top four results and a further top five finish
already under his belt in 2006, Jeremy is certainly one of the most
consistent drivers in Formula Renault UK and this is reflected by his
current position in the championship standings – just 11 points shy of
the coveted top three.
As Donington marks the beginning of the second half of the 20-round
season, the Fleet teenager knows he must continue to finish
consistently well during the remaining 10 races but he is also keen to
secure his first victory of the season and sees absolutely no reason
why this can’t be achieved in just over a week’s time.
The 18-year-old BillChaser-backed star added: “I do like Donington, it
has a really good variation of corners which suit my driving style so
we’re going into the weekend in a positive frame of mind. I’m looking
forward to the races and while I’m aiming to be on the podium, it’d be
fantastic if we’re in a position to win our first race of the year.”
Pre-event testing will take place on the Thursday preceding the race
meeting, 27th July, rather than its usual Friday slot, with round 11
qualifying to take place at 10.35 on Saturday, 29th July, and round 12
qualifying set to begin at 15.10.
On Sunday, 30th July, the first of the weekend’s races is scheduled to
get underway at 09.10 with round 12 expected to commence at 14.20. Both
16-lap encounters will be broadcast live on Motors TV, channel 413 of
the Sky Digital platform and via channel 173 through cable provider
NTL.
