With the largest Drag Racing event
in the southern hemisphere and season finale for ANDRA Championship Drag Racing
series nearly upon us, Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway has been a hive of
activity both on and off the race track in preparation for it’s iconic
Winternationals.
One of the big names taking advantage of some track
time prior to the big event is Brett Stevens, who was out at Willowbank as apart
of his teams research and development schedule.
The time testing achieved some huge results for the
team’s Ford Falcon Top Doorslammers with Stevens recording a string low 6.0
second quarter mile passes at over 240 mph in his 3000 horsepower Jack Daniel’s
Racing machine, before reeling off his first ever ‘5’ with a fantastic 5.99
second pass at 244.04 mph.
“It has been a personal goal of mine for a couple of
years now to get that ‘5’ after being so close for so long so I am over the
moon,” Stevens said.
“But what is even more exciting coming into the
Winternationals is the consistency we now have in our setups to run these types
of numbers in full race trim without any issues with the
car.”
“I can’t wait to get back out to Willowbank in a
couple of weeks and try to replicate what we have done over the last few days,
the whole team is buzzing with excitement.”
“Depending on conditions, we now also have the data
and hardware that could potentially put me as well as my teams other Doorslammer
entries of Kath (Stevens) and Steve (Packman) in the 5 second zone all at the
same event.”
Stevens has become just the fifth person in
Australia to run a 5 second pass in a
Top Doorslammer, with his wife Kath Stevens the fourth in the club after her
incredible 5.96 run at the 2008 Summernationals earlier this
year.
As well as Brett and Kath Stevens, the Brett Stevens
Racing team will also have it’s SP Racing Ford Falcon driven by Steve Packman
taking to the track at the Winternationals with the goal of having all three of
it’s Top Doorslammers running ‘5’s’ in competition.
