Rui Chagas – Double Victory in Cartagena PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 25 May 2008
Rui Chagas won both races in this weekend’s roundof the Spanish Endurance Cup. Chagas was joined once again by Stefan Hodgetts for the 3rd round of the increasingly competitive championship, held at the Cartagena track in southwest Spain, near the Mediterranean Sea.  Chagas, driving for Portuguese team Oasis Motorsport, made his intentions clear already on Saturday with the 2nd fastest time on both qualifying sessions and set his sights on a good result for Sunday’s races.  The most difficult thing we face in qualifying is finding the right moment to get a clear lap and this becomes even more difficult with nearly 30 cars on track, so we consider the two 2nd places we achieved today to be very positive.”, commented Rui Chagas. On Sunday, the Portuguese driver supported by Petronas and Holmes Place had high hopes for victory and this is exactly what happened on both races, leaving Chagas in the championship lead. “Both my teammate and me had very intense races, with a lot of fighting for positions. This double victory was extraordinary, rewarding the efforts of our team and of all who have been supporting us in our return to competition this year. We came to Cartagena in 2nd place and we leave leading the Championship!”, an enthusiastic Rui Chagas commented on Sunday. The next event will be held on June 14th-15th in Albacete.
