Dixon claims first front row place at Oulton Park PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 27 May 2008

Kent racing driver James Dixon chalked up his first front row starting position in carjdfr082.jpg racing at the weekend in the latest round of the BARC Formula Renault Championship.

The Candy Carriers-backed racer went into the event full of confidence after some intensive testing and development since the previous round at Rockingham last month. A superb qualifying session put the 18 year-old second on the grid for only his third event in car racing, giving him an ideal opportunity to go for a podium result in the race.

However, a poor start meant that James lost ground to some of his rivals as the lights went out and he dropped back into the clutches of the people behind him. A superb drive back allowed him to take sixth place by the time the chequered flag fell.

Despite the frustrating result, James left the meeting with more positives and keen to prove his race winning potential at the next round at Croft in July.

“Being on the front row for the start of the race was tense,” he said. “Obviously I’m disappointed with the result in the race, there’s more for me to learn, especially the starts. There were three red flag stoppages during the race, which didn’t help. But I’m very happy with my pace in qualifying. To be on the front row in just my third event is great and I’ve learned how to use the new tyres a lot more, so I’m hoping that I will be at the sharp end all the time now.

“I’d have been happier if I’d been able to come away with a podium result like I wanted to, but I’m leaving Oulton knowing that I’m right at the sharp end in terms of pace, so it’s down to me to take the next step and pick up some top three results from here on in,” he added.

James has an eight week break before he heads to the North Yorkshire circuit of Croft at the end of July.
