South Australian based-BMS Motorsport and driver Samantha Reid will make one of the longest treks in Motorsport when they tackle the third round of the 2006 Australian Formula Ford Championship at Queensland Raceway this weekend.
Reid heads into the round looking to continue the rapid learning curve as the team builds their first full national championship season, 19-year-old Reid making her first appearance at the flowing 2.8km circuit located an hour outside of Brisbane.
Reid made solid progress at the second round, held at Barbagello Raceway near Perth two months ago and heads to the Queensland event feeling optimistic that a continual climb up the order will be possible this weekend.
“There are 18 cars entered for the weekend and I’d like to think that we can be up in top 12,” Reid said.
“I’ve never been to the track but we are confident that we have the car sorted for circuits like Queensland Raceway.
“This year will be a good opportunity to learn the circuit and get some
data for next season when we will be out to win the championship.”
“We have quite a good base for gearing and setup for circuits like Queensland so it should be an interesting weekend.” She said.
Adding to the challenge this weekend will be new front brakes introduced by Formula Ford in the two month gap between meetings.
Due to the increasing speed shown by the Formula Ford cars this season,
the series governing body has introduced both new front calipers and
rotors into the series, the new parts coming on line from this round
onwards.
“The new brakes will make the cars different to drive again,” said Reid.
“We have been having problems with the brakes before this round so
hopefully it’s the solution to the problem we’ve been looking for.”
And whilst the circuit and brakes will both be new to Reid this
weekend, A new sponsor to the team will be helping to make life more
comfortable as the team takes to the circuit from this round onwards.
AutoFocus Marketing has partnered with the team and will promote the
new range of Chicane Ladies driving suits, the only brand in the
industry creating a racing suit specifically for women.
“AutoFocus marketing is the Australian distributor of Oakley and
Chicane Motorsport apparel and the Leatt Brace head and neck
restraint,” explained Reid.
“I have been wearing Oakley racing boots for a while now and I’m really
happy with them. It’s also great to finally have a race suit that fits
– I’ve been racing for nearly 10 years and I’ve never found one that
fits properly. The one Chicane has supplied looks great and is really
comfortable which will be fantastic to have this season.
“The AutoFocus and Chicane team have been great to work with, I really enjoyed designing my suit and I think it looks great!”
Samantha Reid and BMS Motorsport will be in action this weekend at
Queensland Raceway for the third round of the 2006 Australian Formula
Ford Championship.
