Gold Coast V8 Supercar driver Michel Trimble was back behind the wheel of his
Global Jet Holden Commodore during testing at the Winton Motor Raceway near
Benalla in Victoria yesterday.
Trimble, who is the leading rookie in the
Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series, believes yesterday's testing has provided him with
further confidence entering next month's round at Sandown International Raceway.
"It was great to get back on track yesterday to familiarise myself again with
the team and the characteristics of the car," said Trimble.
"Prior to
the start of the season I had only completed a handful of laps in a V8 Supercar
and as such I have been learning on the run during each session of the opening
two rounds which has been a little bit tough.
"Yesterday's test provided
me with the opportunity to really understand the car and how it reacts to the
different changes we make to the set up.
"Overall it was a very
productive day, we made some good steps forward in the set up and I felt as
though my driving also improved as I got more comfortable in the car while
completing over 80 laps.
"Now it is time to aim for another solid result
at the next round to maintain my position in the championship standings."
Trimble, who was crowned the Rookie of the year in the Porsche Carrera
Cup Series during 2007, made a fine debut in a V8 Supercar during the opening
round of the 2008 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series by finishing fifth on the Adelaide
street circuit during February.
The 23-year-old continued this strong
form into round two with another top ten result to now sit third in the overall
standings on 414 points. Experienced V8 Supercar campaigner Steve Owen leads the
championship on 534 points ahead of Jack Perkins on 472.
Round three of
the seven-round Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series will be held at Melbourne's Sandown
International Raceway on June 7 - 9.
