The Bank holiday Monday in
England is famous for the traffic
jams on the roads across the country. Johannes took to the track on Monday
morning for qualifying to discover that the famous traffic had spread to the
Oulton
Park
racetrack!
Struggling to find a traffic-free
area of racetrack to get his qualifying lap completed when the tyres where at
their optimum, Johannes qualified 11th. After qualifying Johannes
spoke about the session, saying
“Everyone tells me England is full of traffic – today is
the first time maybe I have to believe them! My engineer and I tried our best
to get ourselves clear track for our qualifying run – we were unlucky it just
didn’t work out today. My teammate James did the same thing as us and just
missed the traffic and did a great job to qualify 2nd so we know the
car is fast for the race!”
Several incidents ensured the race
was to be an eventful one for the entire grid. Starting 11th,
Johannes made a fantastic start, gaining places immediately off the line and
narrowly missing a stationary car further up the field. Completing the opening
lap in 7th position Johannes and the team were to have all the work
to do again as one of the drivers from the back of the grid hit the stationary
car and the debris resulted in the race being
stopped.
A full restart saw Johannes again
make a good start from 11th. By the end of the 4thth position when the red flags stopped the race
again due to another accident. lap
Johannes was in 5
With only 3 laps remaining after
the final restart, Johannes was fighting hard to find a way past Kenny Andrews.
Andrews kept his cool and maintained his position, Johannes crossing the line
5th just in front of his teammate James
Dixon.
Speaking after the race Johannes
said
“This was a very productive
weekend for me, I learned a lot – the track is so technical that it takes some
time to learn how to get a perfect lap together. I am happy with the progress
the team and I made this weekend as coming to a circuit as difficult as this one
with so little testing is not easy. Thanks to Peter (my engineer) and Duncan
(Tappy, my driver coach) for all their help this weekend, it really was a big
help!”
