West Yorkshire motor racing star Daniel Lloyd made a sensational start to
this weekend’s Ginetta Junior Championship race meeting during pre-event
practice at Croft Circuit near Darlington this afternoon, Friday, 30th May – the
teenager setting the fastest time of all.
The Huddersfield based 16-year-old, who is third in the driver standings
heading into this weekend’s 11th and 12th rounds of the season, was in
scintillating form today and ended the 50-minute session with a best lap of 1m
44.223 seconds (73.39mph).
Placing Daniel a full half second ahead of championship rival Thomas
Carnaby and current series leader Dino Zamparelli, the British Racing Drivers’
Club (BRDC) Stars of Tomorrow Scholarship Winner is brimming with confidence as
he now looks forward to qualifying tomorrow, Saturday, 31st May, and the first
of the weekend’s Ginetta races.
“Today’s test was absolutely mint for me”, said the delighted racer, “I’m
really happy with the way everything went this afternoon. The car felt
brilliant, it gave me the confidence to be totally committed and to push all the
way through the session. The track was a little bit slippery in places where it
was still a bit damp but overall conditions were good.”
Earlier in the day, Daniel was interviewed live from Croft for the
mid-afternoon show on BBC Radio Leeds where he talked about his season so far,
combining a racing career with his GCSE exams at Huddersfield Grammar School and
plans for the future.
Qualifying for the 11th and 12th rounds of the 2008 Ginetta Junior
Championship will take place at 13.50 tomorrow, Saturday, 31st May, with the

timetabled to begin at approximately 13.50 on Sunday, 1st June.
