JHR Developments driver Andrew Herron secured his third front-row start in
as many race meetings at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire today, Saturday, 31st
May, as he aims to add another SEAT Cupra Championship podium to his 2008
tally.
The Brian Herron Contracts backed ace, who hails from Dromore in Co. Down,
Northern Ireland, lapped with a superb time of 1m 27.700 seconds (87.22mph)
during round nine qualifying this morning to line-up second on the grid for the
first of tomorrow’s races.
During the round 10 session, Andrew wasn’t quite able to string together
the lap he wanted but a time of 1m 27.879 seconds (87.05mph) was still good
enough for the second row of the grid – putting him in a great position to be
able to challenge strongly for a brace of podium finishes this weekend.
Sixth in the driver standings ahead of rounds nine and 10, the 19-year-old
is on a terrific run of form at present having visited the podium during the
previous two race meetings at Donington Park and, a fortnight ago, at
Thruxton.
Qualifying ahead of several vastly more experienced drivers once again
today, Andrew is beginning to come of age as a top-line saloon car racer and has
high hopes he’ll have the pace to mount a serious challenge tomorrow.
“I’m really happy to be on the front row for race one and the second row
for race two isn’t too bad either”, commented Andrew, “In second qualifying I
made a couple of mistakes which cost me another front row start but I’m feeling
confident ahead of the races.
“It looks as though it could rain tomorrow at Croft but I went well here in
the wet when I was in the Clio Winter Cup last year so hopefully I’ll be able to
show a similar performance in the SEAT. Whatever happens with the weather, I’m
confident we stand a great chance of achieving two good results.”
Round nine of the championship will take place at 12.40 tomorrow, Sunday,
1st June, with round 10 following at approximately 15.55. Potentially, some of
the SEAT Cupra action may be broadcast during the British Touring Car
Championship programme on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4
which begins at 12.30.
