António Félix da
Costa was back in action in the Formula Renault NEC, participating in the
2nd event of this competitive championship.
With nearly 30
drivers present in Zandvoort, the Portuguese rookie proved his good form once
again, leaving the Dutch track with two well deserved podium
finishes.
Driving for current
champions Motopark Academy, António showed he meant business from early on,
qualifying 4th and 3rd for the two races held on
Sunday.
“With almost 30
drivers on track it is very difficult to find the right moment to do a quick lap
so I think these were very positive results”, commented the
driver on Saturday.
António had a great
start for the first race and immediately moved up one place, passing one of his
opponents on the outside of the first corner in a move that impressed many of
those observing the race. Keeping close to the drivers in front, Félix da Costa
kept pushing throughout the entire race and was rewarded with a 2nd
place finish, 4 seconds behind the winner.
Starting form
3rd position for the weekend’s second race, António kept the pressure
on the leaders during the during the first half of the race, at one point racing
side by side with the 2nd placed driver. However, at a time where it
is important to collect championship points he decided to play it safe and run
at a more controlled pace, securing 3rd place at the
end.
According to the
young Portuguese driver: “This was a really good weekend! We came to
Zandvoort in 11th place in the championship and we leave in
3rd place, which is great! The team did really well and I am feeling
more and more comfortable and integrated. Now we need to keep working in order
to find more confidence in the car”, concluded
António.
The next Formula
Renault NEC event is on June 14th and 15th in Alastaro,
Finland.
