The Britek Motorsport Scholarship team is aiming at having all its three cars finish inside the top-10 at the third round of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship at Sandown International Raceway this weekend.
The team of Adam Graham (Lismore NSW) aboard the #66 McLaughlin Freightlines entry, Martin Swindells (Brisbane Qld) in the #63 Refrigerated Rental & Sales car; and Ben Walter (Hobart Tasmania) in the #25 Road Solutions entry all completed a very successful test last weekend at Phillip Island.
The trio was joined on the day by Britek Motorsport Managing Director and driver of the #25 Fujitsu Racing Ford Falcon V8 Supercar, Jason Bright.
To further assist with the development of the drivers, Bright took to the track in one of the Minda Motorsport prepared Formula Ford cars. It was the first time since 1995 that Bright had been aboard a Formula Ford racecar and the first time he’d experience the Ford Fiesta powerplant.
“It was an excellent opportunity for me and the other drivers,” said Bright.
“My experience from Formula Ford was quite frankly outdated. The cars have evolved, the tyres have evolved and since 2006 they have run the Fiesta motors instead of the old-styled Kent engines.
“In saying there’s been a lot of change – the one thing that remains with Formula Ford is that it is by far the best breeding ground for motor sport talent.
“It was great to confirm the awesome work Minda Motorsport is doing on behalf of the Britek Motorsport program.
“Then to actually drive side-by-side with the Scholarship group really helped me better understand what information I can pass onto each individual.
“Overall I’m very pleased with how the whole program is progressing. I took time to speak with the drivers, engineers and mechanics. I firmly believe that this coming weekend at Sandown all three cars can score results well inside the top-10.
“It must be remembered that this will only be the third round of the series, so the progression up the order has been very pleasing.”
Ben Walter was delighted with the outcome of the day.
“As a group we all got something out of having Jason at the test and on the track with us,” said Walter.
“As well as the test, I competed in the Victorian State Series Formula Ford round at Phillip Island a couple of weeks ago. Both outings have improved my confidence and knowledge of the car and I’m really looking forward to Sandown.
“No one can test at Sandown, but Phillip Island is similar in terms of its fast flowing nature. So to have a couple of very strong days at Phillip Island is extremely important heading to Sandown.
“The National Series is extremely competitive, but I’m sure I can be on the pace. With our other two cars showing great form there’s no reason why we all can’t look at having our best results of the year.”
