Fortec
Motorsport’s Adriano Buzaid (Oxford) will start from pole position for rounds 11
and 12 of the 2008 Formula Renault UK with Michelin Championship at the
biggest race meeting of the season. The single-seater championship is supporting
the UK round of World Series by Renault, the free motorsport festival being held
at Silverstone Grand Prix circuit on 7th/8th
June.
single 25-minute qualifying session determined both race grids, with each
driver’s fastest time setting the grid for round 11 and their second-fastest
time setting the grid for round 12. Buzaid, who also scored a double pole
position at Donington Park earlier this season, took pole for round 11 with a
best time of 1min 46.070s (108.40mph) on his final flying lap. His earlier time
of 1min 46.182s (108.29mph) was also quicker than every other driver’s best
effort to secure pole for the second race on Sunday, 8th
June.
The
Brazilian’s team-mate James Calado (Cropthorne) will line up alongside Buzaid on
the front row for both races, getting within 0.233s of pole with his best lap of
the famous 3.194-mile circuit. CR Scuderia Formula Renault’s championship leader
Adam Christodoulou (Lichfield) is third on the grid for both races despite
suffering a right-front puncture during the session and will start alongside his
cousin Riki Christodoulou (Sutton Coldfield) of Fortec
Motorsport.
Manor
Competition duo Alexander Sims (Peterborough) and Kris Loane (Kesh) share the
third row, Sims in fifth ahead of Loane in sixth for round 11 and swapping
places for round 12. Fortec Motorsport’s Oli Webb (Knutsford) starts seventh for
both races and is the second-best placed Graduate Cup driver behind
Calado.
The top 10
for round 11 is completed by Alpine Motorsport’s Dean Stoneman (Southampton),
Apotex Scorpio Motorsport’s Will Bratt (Banbury), who is making a one-off
appearance for the team that took him to third overall in the 2007 championship,
and CR Scuderia’s Ryuji Yamamoto.
For round
12, Eurotek Motorsport’s Jordan Oakes (Hopton) improved from 12th to
take eighth place on the grid ahead of Apotex Scorpio’s Australian driver Josh
Scott (Loughborough) and Manor’s Henry Surtees
(Lingfield).
Commenting
on his performance, Adriano Buzaid said: “The car felt really good and back to
how it was at Donington, which suits my driving style. At some corners there was
more grip today than during the test on Thursday and I managed to get some good
overall laps together even though I wasn’t quickest in any particular
sector.
“It’s great
to start on pole position in what should be a massive crowd so I’ll be looking
to make two good starts and see what happens from
there.”
Round 11 of
the 2008 Formula Renault UK with Michelin Championship is due to start at
09.00 on Sunday, 8th June, with round 12 the last racing action of
the day at 16.45.
