Bratt Ninth On Grid For FRUK Return At Silverstone GP PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 07 June 2008
Multiple Formula Renault UK race winner Will Bratt posted the ninth fastest time during round 11 qualifying at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit this afternoon, Saturday, 7th June – an impressive effort by the 20-year-old on his competitive return to the category.
Racing in the FIAT Spanish Formula 3 Championship this year, the Banbury driver haswill_bratt_-_silverstone_gp_qualifying.jpg been drafted back into Apotex Scorpio Motorsport’s Formula Renault UK squad for this weekend’s spectacular World Series by Renault festival at his home venue.

With just one 55-minute test session in which to learn the full GP layout and re-adapt to Formula Renault UK, Will has made good progress and in today’s 30-minute qualifying period he produced a best lap of 1m 47.027 seconds (172.9 km/h) on his penultimate tour to grab a slot on the fifth row of the grid for the first of the weekend’s races.

“I’m fairly happy to have qualified in the top 10, we can definitely race from there and hopefully challenge for a decent finish during the first race”, said the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) Rising Star, “Obviously, I’m here to help the team this weekend so the aim is to score as well as possible and also to bring some useful data back which the other drivers can use.

“Before Thursday’s test I hadn’t been in a Formula Renault car since last October, and I’d never been on Silverstone GP track either, so I think we can be quite pleased with the progress we’ve made. We were only four 10ths of a second away from the second row of the grid which, on a circuit as long as Silverstone GP track, isn’t too bad at all.”

For Sunday’s second Formula Renault UK race, Will faces a more difficult challenge from the seventh row of the grid, the Oxford University scholar set to start from 14th position by virtue of his second fastest lap during qualifying.

The opening race of the weekend – which is to be Will’s first competitive Formula Renault UK outing in eight months – starts the track action at Silverstone tomorrow, Sunday, 8th June, at 09.00 with the second encounter following later in the day at approximately 16.45. With around 40,000 spectators having attended today's action at Silverstone, up to 100,000 are expected tomorrow.
