Brendon Hartley
took his second pole of the season on a very damp Snetterton circuit, finishing
the 30-minute qualifying session for round 10 of the 2008 British F3
International Series two tenths ahead of Sebastian Hohenthal and Sergio Perez.
Stefan Wilson claimed his first pole in the National Class and the second of the
weekend for his Fluid Motorsport team. Wilson finished the session 0.219
seconds ahead of team mate Jay Bridger.
It was Marcus Ericsson who was once again quickest on the opening laps but was soon displaced by Sergio Perez and Nick Tandy in quick order. Tandy, using the experience from the first qualifying session was clearly reveling in the tricky conditions and improved to post a 1m12.535s lap with Sergio Perez, Marcus Ericsson, Sam Abay, Sebastian Hohenthal all staking a claim to the other front row grid position. But with just 8 minutes of the session completed the red flags came out to enable the marshals to recover Callum MacLeod's Litespeedf3 SLC R1 which had stopped at the exit of Russells thanks to a faulty battery.
The car was quickly recovered and the session resumed with Nick Tandy improving his pole time even more while Jay Bridger was vying for his second pole of the day in the National Class.
However with the session approaching the half way point Brendon Hartley popped in a 1m12.196 second lap to stake his claim to pole position. On a drying track the lap times continued to improve.
Atte Mustonen, who had been back in 11th place at the half way point, suddenly started to show the pace that won him the race at Rockingham two weeks ago and he went 0.031 seconds quicker than Hartley just before the red flags came out again after Nick Tandy clouted the tyre barrier on the inside of the Bomb Hole. The JTR Mygale was quickly removed and the session resumed with just 8-minutes on the clock.
Hartley became the first driver to put in a sub 1minute 12 second lap to go back to the head of the timing sheets and he was followed by Hohenthal who was just 0.2 seconds slower than the New Zealander.
The session came to a close with Stefan Wilson claiming his first National Class pole with 60-seconds left on the clock and with three cars off at Riches and the yellow flags waving the session came to an end with Brendon Hartley celebrating his second pole of the year.
