Following his outstanding performance to date in this season's Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup, the 2007 VXR Racing Driver of the Year winner John Allison has set his sights on his first race win at his local circuit at Croft, North Yorkshire, this weekend.
After claiming his first-ever podium driving in the last race weekend at Pembrey four weeks ago, the 35-year-old mortgage consultant from Beverley is in good shape to take a home victory. "I know Croft from when I took my race licence test," he said. "I had an hour's tuition so this is the first circuit I will attend this year that I actually know.

Allison is getting more and more confident racing and is keen to out-pace his team-mate. "I'm confident I can be quicker than my team-mate Martin Wallbank. If I could finish ahead of him in both races that would be a great result for me, but it would be amazing to secure my first win on home turf."

Since his last race, Allison has had limited track time, but taken advantage of VXR track days. The days have enabled him to get some track time to familiarise himself further with his Astra VXR race car. "The extra time in the car allows me to get to know the circuits," he said.

"I'm really looking forward to Croft. It's been a month since the last race and it will be good. I just hope it won't rain as much as it did for the touring car race last week, because the conditions were very difficult."

If you would like the opportunity to become a professional racing driver, hurry you only have three weeks until the 2008 VXR Racing Driver of the Year competition closes. All you have to do is visit www.vxrdriver.co.uk, spare a few seconds, test your knowledge and you could be qualifying for the semi-finals, with the potential to make the Grand Final.

>From all entries 1,620 successful applicants will be put through their paces in the karting semi-finals before 15 finalists are selected for the intensive
