Britek Motorsport Scholarship driver Adam Graham (McLaughlin Freight Lines) has finished third overall at the third round of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship at Sandown International Raceway.
The result was the first podium finish for the Britek Motorsport Scholarship program.
Graham qualified second before finishing third in race #1, third in race #2 and fourth in the final race of the weekend.
Graham was rewarded with third in race #1 after he was involved in a high-speed accident when his left-rear brake disc exploded with two laps remaining. The rear of the car hit the crash barrier and officials immediately stopped the race. Under the rules the results were awarded on the previous completed lap.
The next two races were not as dramatic, but the Lismore driver kept it clean to grab the podium and in the process moves to third in the championship chase.
“The end result was very pleasing,” said Graham.
“We were confident coming into the weekend, but we had to work hard for the result.
“The accident in race #1 was pretty scary. Heading into a fence backwards at over 200-kilometres per hour gets your attention.
“The guys did a great job getting the car ready for race #2 and I was more than happy to attack.
“I made a couple of errors, but overall I was happy with the results.
“The next race in Darwin is a new event for everyone and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Fellow Britek Motorsport Scholarship drivers Martin Swindells (Refrigerated Rental & Sales) completed the weekend in seventh overall while Ben Walter (Road Solutions) was 12th.
Britek Motorsport Scholarship General Manager and Team Principal of Minda Motorsport Bruin Beasley, was pleased with the weekend’s results.
“It’s great for Adam and the entire Britek Motorsport Scholarship to secure this podium result,” said Beasley.
“Adam showed enormous character, especially after the race #1 shunt.
“We put all three cars in the top-10 in qualifying and were pretty close to getting all three in the top-10 for the weekend.
“The team continues to improve and we are all looking forward to Darwin. It’s a new track for everyone in the championship and we feel that we could be a force in the top-end.”
The next round will be held in Darwin on July 4-6.
