Assaillit on the march at Sandown PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 09 June 2008
Fujitsu Racing’s Damian Assaillit has finished ninth in the final race of the third round of the Fujitsu Series at Sandown International Raceway

It was a strong finish to the weekend for the 18-year-old Sunshine Coast racer who qualified 23rd, then finished 16th in race #1 and 12th in race #2.

Assaillit was placed 12th overall for the weekend and is now 15th in the championship.

“Our best race meeting of the season,” said Assaillit.

“We didn’t get the most out of the car during practice and qualifying, but it was a marked improvement in the races.

“Our times were far better in the races and we kept moving up the order.

“My confidence improved and it was great jump into the top-10 by the end.

“We don’t race again until Queensland Raceway in July. That’s my home track and I’m really looking to it.”

David McMahon Team Principal of Race Image, the organisation that runs the Falcon in the Fujitsu Series was pleased with the race performance.

“Damian’s race pace was excellent this weekend,” said McMahon.

“We have to get on top of qualifying as we are giving away at least ten spots to our competition.

“The team will continue to work on that area and I’m sure that we can enjoy a strong weekend at Queensland Raceway.

“It’s important to remember that Damian is learning all the time and our team is continuing to improve. It’s a competitive championship and we are getting closer to the front of the order.”

The next round of the Fujitsu Series will be at Queensland Raceway on July 18-20.
