Festival weekend for Croft PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 09 June 2008

This weekend (June 14/15th) sees Croft Circuit near Darlington host the second round of the popular Dunlop-backed Great and British Motorsport Festival with a feast of racing scheduled for local fans.

Visiting six of the UK's top circuits and organised by the BARC, the series will see capacity grids in most classes and will feature various categories for sports and saloon cars with the aim of delivering superb action, featuring some of the best British Championships.

New for 2008 is the BARC/Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup which joins the series as a full championship after an exciting series of trial races in 2007. The production car championship, which is a potential feeder series to the BTCC, will see a varied mix of cars with BMW, Alfa Romeo, MG, Vauxhall, VW, Renault, Nissan, Fiat, Citroen, Seat and Mini battling for top honours.

Further tin-top action will come from the Mini Challenge, with packed grids of Coopers and Cooper S works models battling for victory in Sunday's two races whereas the Mini Se7en and Mini Miglia competitors will be in action on Saturday.

Fans of Le Mans style sports car racing are catered for with the Radical UK Cup which will see two, fifty minute races on Sunday complete with compulsory pit stops and driver changes. These are some of the fastest cars to race at national level this year, with this being the flagship of Radical's UK racing programme. Saturday sees two races for the supporting Radical Club Cup as part of the fourteen race package over the weekend.

In addition, the BARC Westfield Championship will see drivers battle it out over a pair of twenty minute races on Sunday and the increasingly popular Darlington and DMC-organised Northern Sports and Saloon Car Championship gets an outing with two races on Saturday afternoon also.

A provisional timetable can be found at http://www.barc.net/competitors/race_timetables/hq0819-01.php

Saturday's action starts with practice at 09.30 followed by the first of six races at 14.50 and Sunday's eight race programme commences at 12.05. Adult admission costs £10 each day with accompanied children aged 15 years and under admitted FREE.
