Harrison: “Sandown was a learning curb”! PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 10 June 2008

thm.jpgRound 3 of the Australian Formula Ford Championship was held at Sandown over the Queens Birthday weekend.

Saturday’s practice session was wet and saw Harrison at the top of the time sheets until the closing minutes.  “It was an interesting session because it was drying out and the last lap was the one to post a time, it was a bit unfortunate that I had traffic to deal with because I think I could have been up there” said Harrison.

Qualifying saw Harrison post a time good enough for fifth (Fastest Mygale) only half a second from the front row.  “This is my best qualifying result so I am extremely happy, I said my goal by the end of the season was to finish in the top 5 so I am one step closer”

A jump start by Harrison at the start of race 1 halted his progress through the field and left him in 20th place for race 2, despite the result Harrison was one of three cars to break the lap record.  “I jumped the start by a fair margin so I am happy to accept the penalty, although the result wasn’t ideal we have shown our pace”

Starting from 20th in Race 2 Harrison was on a charge, moving through the field to 7th  “I cant believe I got this far through the field, I honestly didn’t expect to be in the top 10” by the chequered flag.

The weather for the third and final race was questionable with the track being declared wet.  “We are unsure of the conditions and therefore car set up, because it has been declared wet most people have put new tires on which will give them a significant advantage if it does dry up” commented Harrison.  After the roll around lap Harrison  A poor start on the wet line shuffled Harrison down the field. “I couldn’t get off the line because of the wet track, all the cars on the race line got away easily”.  After 12 laps Harrison finished in 9th place.  realized the racing line was dry but offline was still wet.

“Although the weekend didn’t go entirely to plan we showed more speed than we have previously, for example we improved on qualifying from Wakefield by 6 places”
