Following on from a broken leg sustained in the opening round of the
Italian Superbike Championship in April, Tommy Bridewell will return to the
saddle this weekend for the latest round of the Suzuki GSX-R 750 European Cup
which takes place at the Nurburgring in Germany.
The 18 year old from Etchilhampton near Devizes in Wiltshire underwent an
operation in Italy to pin the leg straight after the freak accident and has only
just been given clearance by his doctors to race this week, whereby he will join
up with the British Suzuki team once again.
"I tested a road bike at Castle Combe last week and I struggled at first
but after a few laps, I settled into it and started putting some quick laps in.
In the end it wasn't a problem and I've been training my butt off and my biggest
concern at present is whether or not the bee sting I got whilst out on my
pushbike last night will clear up in time! Needless to say, I'm really looking
forward to racing again and it will be good to meet up with Steve Booth and the
team in Germany. Hopefully, we can be challenging for a podium placing and we
can get this season back on track at last."
After the German round, Tommy will travel to Misano in Italy at the end of
the month to contest the fourth round of the series before returning to the
Italian Superbike Championship at the same track on July 27th.
Meanwhile, British fans can look forward to seeing Bridewell in action on
home soil as he plans on contesting the Castle Combe Superbike Grand National on
August 16/17th and also, the Suzuki GSX-R 750 European Cup will be taking place
at Donington Park in September meaning he'll be riding there also.
